On March 16, 2023, under the UNESCO-PRADA Girls Stem Project, which is aimed at identifying girls who dropped out of school and helping them get back to school, a 1-day refresher training on the re-entry guidelines was organized for the District Back-to-School Advocacy Team.
The project, which is being implemented by the Girls’ Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service in partnership with the Municipal Education Directorate, successfully had a 1-day refresher training program at the Parish Hall of the Holy Trinity Catholic, Agormanya, to bring the stakeholders up to speed on their very responsible roles in identifying, motivating, and empowering these victims of teenage pregnancy to get back to school and strive for a better future since all hope is not lost.
The participants were drawn from religious bodies, teacher unions, opinion leaders, traditional leaders, policymakers, CSOs, and educational sector stakeholders, among others.
Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh, MCE for Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, addressing the gathering, assured all the stakeholders of maximum support from the Municipal Assembly under his watch. This initiative will go a long way to restore hope to some few who are currently hopeless just because they got pregnant by mistake and dropped out of school.
Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh stated that the government’s free SHS and free TVET initiatives by the ruling NPP government will go a long way to comprehend their efforts to restore and shape the future of the unfortunate school dropout girls in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.
Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey, Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Education Director, acknowledged the outstanding efforts of UNESCO-Prada, an international group that is pursuing cooperation to ensure that every girl and young woman continues learning everywhere and to ensure a safe return to school for those who might have dropped out due to various reasons.
The project seeks to identify such girls from all communities within the municipality and offer some support to them so as to bring and maintain them in school, which is a move in the right direction as he called for full cooperation of all the stakeholders from both government and non-governmental agencies since the project will restore hope.
Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey assured all the stakeholders to feel free at all times to contact him and his team at the Municipal Education Directorate since they are fully committed and ready to help successfully implement this project. The Lower Manya Krobo Municipality is fortunate to be one of the three districts benefiting from this phase of the initiative.
Nene Teye Adjesu III, who led a high-powered traditional delegation, pledged the maximum support and commitment of traditional authorities in the Manya Krobo traditional area to this all-important and career-saving initiative, which is aimed at helping the girl child.
Some of the dignitaries present at the training program are: Mrs. Agnes Nanor (Headmistress of Makrosec), Mr. Emmanuel Siakwah (President of YOWE), Rev. Stephen Amanor Tetteh (Christian Council), Mr. Wayo (ISD), Mrs. Grace Koryo Asare (Girl Child Co-ordinator, Municipal Education Directorate), and Sophia Manyeyo Samadji (PRO, Municipal Educational Office), among others.
