The Somanya District of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has impounded 50 motorists for various road offenses.

In all 20 commercial vehicles and 30 motorcycles were arrested by the police in a special operation conducted on Tuesday.

Inspt. Richard Sarpong of the Somanya District Police Command MTTD who was in charge of the operations in an interview with www.krobolandonline.com explained that the arrested motorists were offenders of various road offenses ranging from driving without appropriate documentation including driving license, riding license and other Vehicle documents.

He further stated that some of the riders were arrested because they were riding motors without crash helmets which is a road safety offense.
Ispt. Richard Sarpong said that all the arrested motorist will be prepared to face the law at the various courts with jurisdiction over the offenses committed by the motorist.

The Somanya District Police Commander, Supt. Anyani Andrews advice the owners of Public transports to ensure that their drivers are duely documented to driver the vehicles to save lives and properties on our roads as he call on stakeholders participation in fighting against illegal road usage to protect lives.
Supt. Anyani Andrews, the Somanya District Police Commander hinted he will be suctioning an emergency meeting with the driver unions in his operational area in the next few days.
