The leadership of Kloma Hengme Association, a youth advocacy group based in Krobo Land, held a crucial meeting with Hon. John Atteh Matey, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, and Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey, MCE for Yilo Krobo Municipality. The meeting took place at the office of the Lower Manya Krobo MCE.

A high-powered delegation from the Association, led by Chairman Mr. Isaac Tamatey-Otu and General Secretary Dr. Eric Lawer Tamatey-Sikatse, congratulated both MCEs on their recent appointments. They pledged the group’s full support and cooperation in promoting development across the Krobo area.

During the meeting, Dr. Tamatey-Sikatse voiced the Association’s deep concerns about the deteriorating condition of the major road linking Somanya to Kpong, particularly the stretch from Somanya (Yilo Krobo) to Odumase (Lower Manya Krobo). He highlighted the severe dust pollution, which poses significant health risks to residents and has led to the collapse of several businesses along the route—resulting in economic hardship for many.

He further described the daily struggles commuters face in accessing public transportation between Agormanya and Somanya, emphasizing the growing frustrations of residents.

The youth group informed the MCEs of their intention to stage a peaceful demonstration if no concrete action is taken within the next month. However, they expressed hope that such a protest would not become necessary, stressing their desire to see proactive steps taken to restore dignity to affected communities.

In response, Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey thanked the group for their initiative and engagement. He commended the Association’s approach as a demonstration of goodwill and assured them that efforts were underway to address the road issues. He emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving the matter in the shortest time possible.

Hon. John Atteh Matey echoed these sentiments, acknowledging that the condition of the road has caused significant distress for local authorities and senior government officials alike. He revealed that the delay in the project is partly due to complications surrounding the contract awarded to General Construction Company Limited, the firm responsible for the road works. The government, he explained, is currently conducting due diligence to resolve contractual issues. Nonetheless, he reassured the delegation that resolving the road situation is a top priority and that stakeholders at multiple levels are working behind the scenes to ensure the contractor returns to site and completes the project.
