Family of the chief priest of Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nana Klowekiwem has rubbished a letter circulated by the traditional council informing the nation that it has canceled this year’s performance of dipo puberty rite and the annual Ngmayem festival to contain the spread of the Covid-19.

The family stated that the Konor can only control the celebration of the festival but not the performance of the dipo puberty rite because that customary rite are performed by the chief priest and not the Konor.

In a counter press release issued by the family on Friday asserted that the dipo rite is performed by the chief priest therefore the Konor, Nene Sakite II has no locus to call- off this year’s performance of the mandatory annual customary rite for reason of Covid-19.

The Manya Krobo traditional council in a letter dated July 27, 2020 announced that the celebration of this years annual Ngmayem festival and the dipo puberty rite has been rescheduled due to the outbreak of the corona virus pandemic after a consensus by a standing order committee of the traditional council.
Meanwhile, Nana Klowekiewem in a swift response said the dipo puberty rite is not under the control of the Paramount chief therefore he cannot use his discretion to dictate to the priests.
