Hundreds of supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency took to the street to protest against the outcome of the 2020 elections.
The protest was led by the National Youth Organizer of the NDC, Opare Addo, Member of the National Campaign Team, Benedicta Laasi, the Eastern Regional Deputy Women Organizer Tina Mensah and the executives of the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency.
This was part of the series of demonstrations by the party to draw the attention of the Electoral Commission to what the leadership of the NDC and it’s flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama described as a flawed election as the protestors clad in red and black and in red armbands marched from Kpong through to Odumase Krobo.
The protesters were carrying plaque cards with the “ Jean Mensah Mensah cannot choose a president for the 30 million Ghanaians, justice before peace, Akuffo Addo you did not win this election, Ghanaians will not forgive Jean Mensah” marched peacefully under the protection of personnel from the Ghana Police Service.
Lower Manya Krobo Constituency Chairman, David Walter told the Ghanaian Times that they are demonstrating for a fair democracy.
He said democracy must be free and fair devoid of cheats, adding that they are calling on the Electoral Commission to do the right thing for peace and mystic to prevail.
The National Youth Organizer of the NDC, Mr. Opare Addo said they will continue to demonstrate until their flag bearer, Former President John Mahama is sworn in as President of Ghana come January 7, 2021.
When asked why the NDC is hesitating to go court than resulting to street protest to register their displeasure, he said demonstration is part of their legitimate rights therefore they will continue to use every legitimate means to ensure that the votes of the majority that queued to vote for John Mahama is counted.
