Five persons have been confirmed dead following a fatal accident that occurred last night at the Asutsuare junction on the Kpong to Tema Motorway. The crash involved a Ford Transit passenger van and a Howo tipper truck.

The Ford Transit, with registration number GS 466-23, was travelling from Kadjebi to Accra when it collided with the Howo tipper truck at the junction. The impact caused both vehicles to veer off the highway, trapping the Ford Transit van beneath the tipper truck for an extended period.

Firefighters from the Kpong Fire Station, Ambulance Service personnel, and Police officers in the area undertook several rescue efforts. Three persons were confirmed dead on the spot, while two others were later pronounced dead by medical officers at the Kings & Queens Hospital. An additional four victims are currently receiving critical care at the same facility.

The Police have opened an investigation to determine the actual cause of the accident, which has so far claimed five lives.

The Kpong–Tema highway has, in recent times, become one of the most dangerous stretches in the country due to the increasing number of fatal incidents recorded.
