Kwabia Asasehene D/A Basic School in the Upper Manya Krobo District, established in 1977 to provide quality education to children within Kwabia Asasehene and its surrounding communities, is in dire need of teachers and essential amenities to sustain teaching and learning.

During a recent visit by a team from LEYLA Images and the KROBO LAND Community Page, the School Management Committee (SMC) Chairman, Mr. Benjamin K. Tetteh, revealed in an exclusive interview that the school’s situation has become increasingly frustrating due to the severe shortage of teachers.

Mr. Tetteh explained that, in the absence of enough teaching staff, he has willingly volunteered for years to teach the KG pupils in a nearby church building, an arrangement he describes as pathetic, considering how crucial early childhood education is to the development of every child.

He further highlighted that the JHS block constructed through community effort is inadequate and unfit for purpose. He therefore appealed to Government, NGOs, local authorities, stakeholders, and well-meaning Ghanaians to intervene and help sustain the school for the benefit of the children.

Despite the challenges, Mr. Tetteh proudly disclosed that all candidates in the school’s first batch of JHS graduates who sat for this year’s BECE passed, with the best aggregate being 11 and the least 26. He believes that with improved infrastructure and adequate teacher support, the school’s performance will continue to rise.

Adding his voice, Dadematse Korley Narh of Kwabia Asasehene Yiti appealed to Government and stakeholders to construct a standard teachers’ bungalow for the school. He noted that such accommodation will encourage teachers to accept postings to the community and contribute to the brighter future of their children.
