The popular Yam Festival (Te za) by the Chief and people of Asogli traditional area in the Ho Municipality is set to return this year, after a three year break.
The festival which was disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, was partially celebrated in 2019 without the usual euphoria and a grand durbar.
However, the 2022 celebration is set to return in full force, with the grand durbar slated for Saturday, September 10, 2022.
As part of preparations, the Asogli state Council has announced a one month ban on funerals within the traditional area, starting August 7, 2022 to September 11, 2022.
This was contained in a statement dated July 13, 2022 and issued by the secretary to the council, Stephen Tetteh.
It reads ‘The Asogli State Council announces for information of the general public that it has commenced preparations for celebration of this year’s Asogli State Te Zä (Yam Festival).
The Asogli State Council therefore announces that the customary ban on funerals in the entire Asogli State will take effect from Sunday, 7th August, 2022 and end on Sunday, 11th September, 2022.
The Agbogbomefia Togbe Afede XIV and his Chiefs appeal to the general public to co-operate with them by strictly observing the ban on funeral to ensure a peaceful and successful celebration.’
