The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Major General (Maj Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah commissioned a couple of projects and inspected others ongoing at the Army Recruit Training School (ARTS), as the school is to increase its capacity from seven hundred (750) to a thousand (1000) recruits per training course, to help meet the need to expand GAF’s manpower base.

The Army Commander declared the Military High Command’s intent when he paid a working visit to ARTS, Shai-Hills on Thursday, January 27th, 2022.

The COAS said the plan would effectively address the manpower needs of newly established Army units such as; the 10, 11 Mechanized Battalions and the 155 Armoured Regiment, based in Wa, Bolgatanga and Damongo, in the Upper West, Upper East and Savannah Regions, respectively, and the Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS).

Some of the projects commissioned were a two-bedroom house for the ARTS Second-In-Command (2IC), a Mess for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers of the school and a Pol Point, which were co-sponsored by GA and ARTS.

The General also inspected ongoing construction of a 1,000-capacity Assembly Hall, the location of a yet-to-be-constructed ultramodern lecture hall, and civil works of drains, which span several kilometers across the entire school, in preparation for the continuation of the asphalting of the school’s streets.

The school has also acquired a new airconditioned Medical Centre, which entails two Wards, two Consulting Rooms, a laboratory, a dispensary, a pharmacy, and is manned by a Senior Medical Officer (SMO) with a Head Nursing Officer in Charge (HNOIC).
