The Akosombo Divisional Police Command has launched an intensive sensitisation campaign following a noticeable rise in domestic violence cases and teenage pregnancies within the division.

The initiative, led by Chief/Supt. Doris Grant, Divisional Commander of the Akosombo Police Division, aims to educate communities particularly those in rural areas on domestic violence, sexual abuse, cybercrime, and drug abuse.

Speaking during the launch, Chief/Supt. Grant explained that the campaign was prompted by disturbing encounters during recent community patrols, where several young girls were found to be pregnant, coupled with an increase in reported domestic violence cases within the division.

She noted that the sensitisation drive is being undertaken in collaboration with the Divisional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), with the primary objective of safeguarding the future of young people and other vulnerable persons.

The exercise commenced on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, and has since covered schools and communities in Adjena, Gyakiti, Yeniama, Sapor, Anyaase, and surrounding areas. During the engagements, Police officers interacted with students, teachers, and community members, educating them on the dangers of abuse, preventive measures, and the importance of reporting incidents to the appropriate authorities.

Chief Supt. Doris Grant reaffirmed the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to protecting vulnerable individuals and called on parents, guardians, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders to collaborate closely with the Police to curb these social challenges and ensure a safer environment for future generations.

The Akosombo Police Division is implementing the campaign with the active participation and support of the Ghana Education Service, particularly the Asuogyaman District Education Office. Chief Supt. Doris Grant commended the Service for its maximum support and cooperation.

She also expressed heartfelt appreciation to donors who contributed teaching and learning materials, which are being distributed to students during the sensitisation visits.
