Yilo Krobo Municipal Health Directorate, in collaboration with its stakeholders and partners, has organised the Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Celebration on Friday, October 20th, 2023, with a float in the early hours of today and a durbar at the forecourt of the Somanya Polyclinic.
Dr./Mrs. Irina Ofei, Yilo Krobo Municipal Health Director, addressed the gathering, especially the women, to take advantage of the several breast cancer screening outreaches currently ongoing in the month of October to get their breasts checked since early detection helps in managing the problem and possibly curing it completely.
Dr. Francesca Mensah Darkwah, Medical Superintendent of the Yilo Krobo District Hospital, was a guest speaker at the event. She gave the gathering details and information about breast cancer and entreated the general public to feel free to walk into all health facilities in the Yilo Krobo Municipality for free screening within the month of October.
Hon. Richard Twum Barimah Koranteng, 1st Vice Chairman of the NPP in the Eastern Region, who was the special guest at the event, donated GHC 2,000.00 to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Health Directorate to enable further investigation into some of the breast cancer cases that will be suspected during this month’s screening programmes, as he pledged more support to the health directorate in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.
Chief/Supt. Anyani Andrews, Somanya District Police Commander, was also among the special dignitaries present at this all-important programme.
Students from the Eastern University of Environment and Sustainable Development, Somanya, Mount Mary College of Education, Somanya, and Get Fit Club actively participate in all the activities of the day, as the women had the opportunity to have free breast cancer screening after the durbar at the Somanya Polyclinic.
