The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, Hon. John Atteh Matey, has expressed a strong commitment to revamping the Agormanya Market following his recent visit to the area. His inspection uncovered several pressing challenges which he believes must be addressed urgently for the market to be considered under the Pilot 24-Hour Markets Initiative by the ruling NDC government.

During his tour, Hon. Matey was dismayed by the conduct of some traders who, despite having designated sheds, have abandoned them and instead taken over major roads and walkways within the market. This situation has disrupted both pedestrian and vehicular movement, frustrating visitors and other business users of the space.

Additionally, the MCE noted with concern that some tenants of the newly constructed 188 Lockable Market Stores have undertaken unauthorized extensions in violation of their tenancy agreements. He has personally engaged those involved and instructed the immediate removal of these illegal structures in the interest of order and peaceful coexistence.

Traders and their leaders, who warmly welcomed Hon. Matey on his first official visit to the market, seized the opportunity to appeal for urgent drainage improvement projects. They explained that the central parts of the market are prone to severe flooding during rainfall, which negatively impacts their businesses and livelihoods.

In an exclusive interview with www.krobolandonline.com, Hon. Matey emphasized the importance of field visits in understanding the realities on the ground. He stated that stepping out of his administrative office to observe and assess situations firsthand will be a defining approach of his leadership.

He further noted that his administration would consult widely with stakeholders to address various issues affecting the market, particularly the welfare and future of young people involved in wheelbarrow pushing — a common economic activity within the market.

In conclusion, Hon. John Atteh Matey assured traders and residents that the Agormanya Market would undergo a significant facelift under his leadership. He acknowledged the market’s historical and economic significance to families within the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality and beyond, and pledged to restore its status as a thriving commercial hub.
The Hon. MCE was accompanied on this important visit by:
