Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to be busy in the summer transfer window with a centre-back, one of his top priorities.
Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly is one name that has been mentioned as a possible new recruit at Old Trafford.
News this morning suggested Ed Woodward now has a clear path to signing the Senegal international with Paris Saint-Germain no longer interested.
United could still face competition from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City though.
However, if Solskjaer could pull off a deal in the region of £63million, Koulibaly could be the powerhouse needed to take the Red Devils to the next level.
Koulibaly could be the equivalent signing of Jaap Stam when Sir Alex Ferguson signed the Dutchman back in 1998.
The Dutchman proved to be a crucial member of the United team that won the treble the following year.
Stam would eventually leave for Lazio in 2001.
Koulibaly has made 21 appearances in all competitions this season and has impressed once again.
The 28-year-old is one of the most highly sought after defenders in world football as a result.
United currently sit fifth in the Premier League with football suspended in England due to the coronavirus pandemic.
If and when the season restarts the Red Devils will be desperate to leapfrog Chelsea and make it into the top four.
