President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Kwabena Yeboah is fearful several clubs in the country will go extinct if the Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease forces the cancelation of the league season.
Football in the country has been on hold as a precautionary measure against the spread of the Covid-19 disease which seems to be getting worse by the day.
With no vaccine ready and the increasing number of confirmed cases, it is likely the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will announce the cancelation of the 2019/2020 season.
Speaking on PM Express on Tuesday night, Kwabena Yeboah, was clear when he said clubs will collapse in the country if it comes to the cancelation of the league due to the financial challenges they are already going through.
“Even when the league was in full flight, the clubs suffered a great deal.
“Embarrassingly in Ghana, some of our players take home a paltry of $100 at the end of the month and you will just wonder how they will survive on that”.
He added, “If the league is canceled, I bet you that quite a number of our teams could be extinct”.
Meanwhile the Ghana Football Association is yet to come out with a final decision amidst the speculations.
Elsewhere in Africa, various federations have taken a stand with the concern of the clubs and other stakeholders involved.
Germany is also the first in Europe to resume after the long unexpected break and heading to week 2 of success.
England is also due to follow suit as clubs resume training in small groups on Tuesday.
