A team from the Odumase-Krobo District Police Command, led by the District Police Commander, Chief/Supt. Doris Grant, engaged newly ushered Dipo girls as part of their community sensitization campaign.

Hundreds of young girls at Nene Okomo’s house in Mompong in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality were engaged by the police, where several issues that will be beneficial to them as they continue life after this puberty rite were discussed.

Chief/Supt. Doris Grant, addressing the gathering of these young girls, their parents, and the entire leadership of Nene Okomo Dipo Home, appeals to the girls to take their education seriously since, through serious education, women like herself were able to rise through the ranks to become senior police officers and district commanders.

She continued to caution the girls who have recently passed the Dipo custom to desist from the idea that they’re full-grown women now, since any unwanted pregnancy now can affect their education system and further affect their lives.

Chief/Supt. Doris Grant appeals to parents and caretakers to be very observant about the lifestyle and changes in the life of their girl child since they need a lot of support and guidance, especially at their young adolescent ages.

Chief/Inspt. Margaret Arthur, head of DOVVSU at the Odumase-Krobo District Police Command, also advised the gathering in her address, especially on the need to report all rape and deferment cases to the police since the victims need immediate psychological support and the offenders must face the law.

Nene Okomo commended the team from the Odumase-Krobo District Police Command under the able leadership of Chief/Supt. Doris Grant for this great initiative, which is aimed at safe-guiding the future of the girls for a better future for themselves and Mother Ghana.

Nene Okomo further assured them of his maximum cooperation to help them sustain this initiative first at his Dipo home and extend it to other Dipo homes under her jurisdiction.

Chief/Supt. Doris Grant stated in an exclusive interview with www.krobolandonline.com that, since she arrived in this community, she has initiated several sensitization campaigns in schools and churches, among others, all in the best interest of safeguarding the future leaders of this community and Mother Ghana at large.

In this regard, she called on all opinion leaders and other stakeholders to play active roles in training the future leaders into responsible citizens of this country. She concluded by assuring the citizens of Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of her readiness to partner or take advice in the best interest of improving these initiatives.
