Three science students from Krobo Girls Presbyterian Senior High School (SHS) in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality have emerged as top winners in the prestigious Essay Competition and Aptitude Test organized as part of the 131st Ngmayem Festival celebrations.

Cindy Edudzi Nuworvor, a science student, clinched the overall best award, taking home a special backpack, a pack of exercise books, and a cash prize of GHC 1,500. Rockly Kyerewaah Kumah, also a science student, came in second and received a special backpack, a pack of exercise books, and GHC 1,000. Third place went to Nadia Mateko Nyakor, who won a special backpack, a pack of exercise books, and GHC 750.

The awards ceremony was held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the forecourt of the Krobo Girls Presbyterian SHS administration block. A delegation from the Manya Krobo Ngmayem Festival Planning Committee, including Dr. Harriet Narkie Amui, Mr. Kofi Opata, Nartey Wakemeh, and Mr. Fred Tetteh, presented the awards to the winners. Certificates of participation were also distributed to 14 other participating students from the school.

Mrs. Bernice Noel Mensah-Akutteh, the headmistress of Krobo Girls Presbyterian SHS, expressed her gratitude to the organizers and congratulated the students for their outstanding performance. She also commended the teaching staff for their dedication in preparing the students, emphasizing that the achievement serves as a great source of motivation for the entire student body.
“This honor elevates the school’s reputation in Krobo Land and encourages our students to continue striving for excellence,” she said.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Kofi Opata, a member of the Ngmayem Festival Planning Committee, called on school heads in the Manya Krobo Traditional Area to encourage their students to participate in public competitions.
“Competitions like this help students showcase their talents and improve their confidence. However, we observed low or no participation from some Senior High Schools in the area, and we hope this will change in the future,” he stated.

The success of Krobo Girls Presbyterian SHS highlights the potential of students in the region and underscores the importance of community-driven initiatives like the Ngmayem Festival competitions. The students’ achievements reflect a commitment to academic excellence and personal development, setting a benchmark for other schools to follow.
