Nine (9) passengers have been confirmed dead while Nine (9) others sustained several injuries in a gory accident which occurred on December 31, 20200, on the Kpong stretch of the Akosombo-Tema motorway in the Eastern Region.
The accident occurred at about 8:30 pm when a speeding Sprinter bus with registration number GN 8109- 15 carrying 18 passengers ran into a faulty stationary Tipper Truck with registration GN 2064 -14 at the Kpong portion of the Akosombo to Tema motorway.
The 18 seater Sprinter Bus which was on route from Medina to Ho in the Volta Region met the unfortunate situation at Kpong which took the lives of 7 people on the spot as they were confirmed dead before arrival at the hospitals.
Two others who arrived at the Akuse Government Hospital in critical conditions, a young girl and a young man believed to be in his early 30’s later pass on at the Hospital on Monday 1st January, 2021 as comfirmed by Dr. Alhassan A. Mousa, Clinical Care Coordinator of the Hospital.
At as 10:00 am on Friday, January, 1 2021, when Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh, MCE for the area led a team of security officials to visit the St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Agormanya all 4 who have arrived at the St. Martin de Porres Hospital has been treated awaiting discharge.
The remaining 5 who sustained various degrees of injuries are all stable and receiving treatment at the Akuse Government Hospital as Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh and visited them as well to check on their conditions.
The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower Manya Krobo who was at the scene last night described the accident as unfortunate as he appeal to Motorists to drive with extra caution to save lives and properties during this festive season.
He promised to provide medical care support to the victims whose families are yet to be known.
