The Catholic Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, has commended the current management of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Hospital, Agormanya, under the leadership of the Hospital Administrator, Mr. Emmanuel Bosompim, for their transformative and innovative leadership over the past five years.

The Bishop made this emphatic statement during the official launch of the hospital’s 80th Anniversary celebrations, held on Thursday, September 25th, 2025, at the hospital premises.

In his address to the gathering, which brought together dignitaries from the health, religious, political, traditional, and administrative sectors, Bishop Afrifah-Agyekum expressed satisfaction with the positive direction of the hospital under its current administration. He extended appreciation to both past and present management and staff for upholding Catholic values, which he described as the bedrock of the hospital’s sustainability over the years. He further challenged management and staff to aspire to greater heights, reminding them that such progress is possible if they work together with one heart and mind.

Representing HRM Nene Sakite II, Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional Area, the Asesewa Divisional Chief, Nene Offei Tagbaja I, in his remarks applauded the hospital’s leadership for their innovation, which has propelled the institution to this historic milestone. He assured the management of maximum support and cooperation from traditional leadership in the area to help expand the hospital’s operations in the years ahead.

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Health Director, Dr. James Atampiiga Avoka, who chaired the event, in his closing remarks, also commended the hospital’s management and staff for making the facility a true center of excellence, which continues to bring pride to the Municipal Health Directorate. He equally pledged the full support of the directorate under his watch.

As part of the launch of the 80th Anniversary celebrations, presided over by Bishop Afrifah-Agyekum, several key projects were commissioned. These included a Multipurpose Building, featuring a modern conference hall, CT Scan Centre, ENT and Eye Clinics, as well as a new Mental Health Unit. A mega two-storey office complex was also inaugurated, comprising two large stores for drugs and general supplies, along with 10 administrative offices.
In recognition of their contributions, the mega two-storey office complex was named after the Bishop himself, Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, DD, STD, while the Multipurpose Building was named in honour of Rev. Msgr. Francis Twum Barimah, Vicar General of the Diocese of Koforidua.
