Thousands of Krobo Youth from both Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo Municipalities have held a mammoth demonstration against the Electricity Company of Ghana to register their displeasure about the unsatisfied service provided by the power distribution company

The youth made up of both males and female dressed in red and black attire walked peacefully from the Akutunya Lorry Station in the Yilo Krobo Municipality through the principal streets to Kpong lorry station.

The protestors were wielding placards with inscriptions such as “ECG must go, We want direct power from VRA, ECG has failed Krobos”, among others.

Addressing the protestors, Mr. Josuah Evor, Secretary of the youth group called United Krobo Foundation said the group had since 2007 complained about the irregularities of service render by ECG some of which includes wrong accumulation of bills, non- reading of meters for over a year, workers of the institution not showing professionalism but nothing was done about the situation.

He said at a meeting organised by ECG, United Krobo Foundation and other youth groups such as Kloma Hengme and Kloma Gbi proposed to ECG to make it easy to resolving the over bailing issues but all proved futile instead trying to impose a prepaid metering on the people of Krobo

Meanwhile he said they will resist all attempts to put to a halt any installation of the prepaid meters.

The group is also demanding an investigation to the logical conclusion of the shooting incident involving personnel of the Ghana Police Service and some demonstrators which occurred on May 23rd 2019 leading to the death of a teenager and also amputating several others.
