As we Celebrates World Optometry Day 2022 on this 23rd Day of March which is a day set aside Annual to celebrate optometrists and eye care professionals worldwide, Dr. Shalom Annku, Optometrist at the Akuse Government Hospital give this 10 key informations about eye care.
- *A good eye sight is one of the basic necessities of life.
- *80% of our daily activities are enhanced by a good eye sight. Eg; our professions, effective communication and even just getting around.
- *80% of blindness is preventable or treatable.
- *Visit your community optometrist at least once a year to stop avoidable blindness.
- *Babies and children also need eye care regularly.
- *Do not put foreign materials like breast milk, salty or sea water, coconut water or urine into your eyes.
- *Do not rub your eyes vigorously.
- *Reduce screen time on your phone or computer.
- Every 20min, look away from your computer or phone at a distant object for at least 20 seconds
- *If you’re interested in using contact lenses, get it from an optometrist and follow the strict hygienic procedures for wearing and cleaning them.
- *Visit an optometrist if you feel your vision is reducing or getting blurry, experiencing persistent headaches or eye pain and itchy eyes.
