The Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly, led by the Hon DCE, Felix Odjao Nartey on Thursday distributed 20,000 Oil Palm seedlings to 205 farmers at Puorkper in the Upper Manya Krobo District.
The project is under the Government’s Flagship Project of Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD).
At the Presentation, the DCE expressed gratitude to His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo for his visionary leadership in enhancing the lives of farmers in Ghana and Upper Manya Krobo in particular.
The DCE recounted how the Upper Manya Krobo area historically boomed with palm oil production with the citing Oil Factory at Asesewa.
He further thanked the Managing Director of the Asare Odometa Oil Palm Factory, Neneyo Mate Korle for establishing his factory, which is currently serving as the main off taker of palm fruit in the district.
He emphasised the need for the production of adequate raw material as the bedrock for industrialisation.
The District Director of Agric, Dr. Evans William Lawson. took the opportunity to encourage the farmers to take good care of the seedlings, so they enjoy the full benefits of the project. Mr. Felix Odjao further assured the farmers of the continuous support of his department, especially the Extension Agents in the various communities.
Receiving a seedling from the Hon. DCE on behalf of farmers, Neneyo Mate Korle expressed gratitude to government and the Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly for the initiative.
He said the project come as a great relief to farmers who are usually unable to purchase seedlings to. He indicated his company’s readiness to purchase all fresh fruits produced in the district.
