The Manya Krobo Traditional Council, under the distinguished leadership of Nene Sakite II, Konor of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area and President of the Traditional Council, has unanimously passed a resolution banning the use of live bullets during public events, including the annual Ngmayem Festival celebrations.

This crucial decision was taken during the Council’s meeting held on Friday, June 13th, 2025, at Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region.

In his address, Nene Sakite II emphasized that the use of live ammunition by individuals who are not professionally trained poses a serious threat—not only to themselves but to the general public. He referenced the growing concern over stray bullet incidents, which have led to injuries, property damage, and even loss of life in recent times.

He noted that the resolution also supports ongoing efforts by the Manya Krobo Ngmayem Festival Planning Committee, which in recent years has promoted the exclusive use of rubber bullets during festivities. According to him, the Council’s directive aligns with the collective goal of ensuring public safety and preserving lives during all traditional celebrations.

The meeting was also attended by Hon. John Atteh Matey, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, and Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Lawer, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Upper Krobo. Both officials expressed their full support for the resolution. They assured Nene Sakite II and the Council of their commitment to discussing and integrating the resolution into their respective security coordination meetings, with the aim of effectively enforcing the ban for the protection of lives and properties.
