On Friday, October 7, 2022, Alive Today, a non-governmental organization which is focused on youth and children empowerment in partnership with Ghana Education Service, Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Directorate, organized “The Candidates Conference” for BECE Candidates in the Kpong Circuit of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region.
This crucial summit focused on providing young candidates with in-depth knowledge on career guidance, selecting the best SHS or TVET school, and programs that will best benefit them, as well as life after Junior High School (JHS).
Ing. Eric Asante, assistant principal who doubled as the head of electricals department of Anum Presby Technical Institute, took the candidates through the comprehensive course analysis and advantages of the TVET courses to young adults as he advised them not to follow the crowd, but must make the best decisions that will be in their best interest since their future depends on some of the decisions they will be taking now.
Through a well-detailed presentation, Joel Anim, a staff from the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Education Directorate, guided the young candidates gathered on the best options ahead of them based on the courses they will be choosing in the coming days to offer or study at the Senior High School level or the TVET institutions, and the possible implications it may have on their dream career path as well as their future career decisions.
Mrs. Eunice Abbey, Preschool coordinator at the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Education Directorate also had the opportunity to give a detailed breakdown on the possibility of Senior High Schools and TVET schools that will be available to the students from Kpong in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality and how best they can get their preferred TVET or SHS as she took her time to explain ways to avoid possible frustration during the placement process.
She also advised the young candidates to take their academic strengths and future career interests into consideration when choosing their next school after Junior High School, since some of the schools are very good and well vested in some academic classes.
The Rev. Samuel Dadzei, Kpong Distric Pastor of the Church of Pentecost, who was also in attendance enlightened the young candidates on life after basic school.
“If you are not careful, you will end your career, which is very dangerous”, he stated.
He further advised the candidates gathered to take their spiritual lives as seriously as they would with their education or career paths, because no greatness can be achieved apart from God Almighty.
The Rev. Samuel Dadzei prayed for all the candidates as they prepare for the end of their basic education examination and wished them well.
Mrs. Grace Asare, Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Girl Child Education Coordinator at the Municipal Education Directorate, who was the program’s chairperson, applauded the NGO’s and its stakeholders’ massive support, which she hopes will go a long way in helping these candidates, as she prayed that the initiative, among others, will survive the test of time to help our candidates.
Lewu Sandra Teiko, CEO of Alive Today In an exclusive interview with www.krobolandonline.com, expressed her satisfaction with the massive turn out by the candidates as she used the opportunity to express her heartiest appreciation to their sponsors and partners, most especially the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Education Directorate under the able leadership of Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey.
She assured us that despite this being the first time of such an initiative in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality by their outfit, this will surely not be the last as she is very optimistic that this all-important initiative will spread to other parts of the Krobo Land area and Ghana at large.
Some participants went home with mathematical sets from Alive Today as part of their support initiatives for them as they prepare for their BECE in a few days’ time.
