There were chaos at the Osiekuse durbar grounds in the Manya Krobo Traditional Area of the Eastern Region when angry youth of Osiekuse stopped the Divisional Chief of Piengua from launching this year’s Piengua Ngmayem Festival on the durbar grounds.
The Divisional Chief of Piengua, Nene Tetteh Zogli III, was leading some elders and people of the Piengua Traditional Area to the grounds to launch the festival slated for 26th of October, 2021 but the youth in their hundreds led by the youth leader, Niewimatse Daniel Tetteh, stopped the entourage from entering the grounds to hold the function.
Explaining the reasons behind their actions, leader of the youth, Niewiamatse Daniel Tetteh insisted that the durbar grounds belonged to the chiefs and people of Osiekuse against the claim to the place by Nene Tetteh Zogli.
They also say the intentions to hold the event were contrary to the President’s ban on social gatherings.
