The Leadership of Ghana National Association of Teachers in the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern as part of their quest to get relevant information to their members on Tuesday, 8th June organised a Symposium for members in the Akosombo Local on Best Retirement Plans.
The all important gathering which took place at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. F. Monninger Congregation Auditorium, Akosombo had several speakers from education stakeholder institutions speaking on issues that will benefit the teacher relating to important preparations ahead of retirement.
The main purpose of the Symposium which was the 3rd of similar seminars held in 3 out of 5 Locals in the Asuogyaman District of Ghana National Association of Teachers is to best inform teachers about best practices ahead of compulsory retirement from the Service.
Mr. Harrison Mompi, the newly elected Chairperson of GNAT in the Asuogyaman District used the opportunity being his first ever major gathering that he was addressing since his recent election to the Office of District Chairman to expressed his heartiest appreciation to the members of GNAT present at the meeting for the opportunity given him to serve them which he is going to do it to his best of capabilities.
The District Chairman further assured the members that his leadership will take issues regarding their Members retirement benefits, services benefits,Promotions and Association benefits among other issues very serious which he knows that will bring great relief to their members.
He continued to to assurance members that all their recent grievances relating to the distributed Association souvenirs are being forwarded to the higher offices in the Association for effective redress.
Ms. Hilda Padi, from the Somanya office of Social Security and National Insurance Trust(SSNIT) in a detailed presentation explain the need why all teachers must be very vigilant and monitor their their three(3) tiers Pension Schemes as that is their secured investment which will cater for them during retirement.
She continued to entreat the gathering to frequently monitor their SSNIT contribution statements which is the tier 1 as well as statements from the tier 2 and tier 3 which are usually managed by private fund managers.
She concluded by appealing to the members of GNAT to use all the friendly online platforms of SSNIT to access the friendly self services from SSNIT.
The head of Marketing from the Teacher’s Fund, Mr. Kweku Acquch, advised the gathered teachers to trust the Teacher’s fund as their preferred savings system since that’s the only safe and well planned investment banking system for the well being of Teachers.
Mr. Kweku also advised the teachers to involve themselves in optional contributions which becomes a reliable investment for their own future. He further advise the teachers to take their emergency loans from the fund since it has the best of advantages for them.
Mr. Obeng Koranteng, Asuogyaman District GNAT secretary entreat members of the Asuogyaman to enroll onto the GNAT Provident Fund which is the best scheme put in place by the Association to manage the tier 3 of Teachers for the best retirement benefits.
The head of Milife Insurance, Koforidua Branch, Mr. Samuel Obo also explain the benefits of being enrolled onto their Policies against death and permanent disability where the total contributions will be given to the beneficiaries with 20% interest.
Some of the members of Ghana National Association of Teachers, Akosombo Local who spoke to www.krobolandonline.com after the seminar commends the current leadership of the Association in the Asuogyaman District for this proactive approach of getting reliable information regarding retirement and its related issues which will help them plan effectively for compulsory retirement which is ahead of every teacher.
They used the opportunity to appeal to the current leadership of the association to organise more of similar seminars that will be of great help to the modern day teacher.
