As part of ongoing efforts to combat rising cases of domestic violence and child abuse in the area, the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Akosombo Police Division in the Eastern Region held an engagement session with caregivers of the Emmanuel Methodist Child and Youth Development Centre, Atimpoku, on Tuesday, July 29th, 2025.

The session was led by ASP Linda Boateng, head of DOVVSU at the Akosombo Division, who delivered an interactive and insightful facilitation on the rights of the child. She emphasized the legal and moral obligation of caregivers to always act in the best interest of the child, as enshrined in Ghana’s laws.

ASP Linda also encouraged the caregivers to confidently reach out to the DOVVSU office whenever they require professional guidance or support, assuring them of a welcoming and non-judgmental environment.

Chief/Supt. Doris Grant, the Akosombo Divisional Police Commander, who accompanied the DOVVSU team, commended the caregivers for their dedication but cautioned strongly against the harmful practice of privately resolving child abuse, defilement, or rape cases at home. She urged them to prioritize the wellbeing and rights of the child over personal or family reputation, stressing that such silent settlements often worsen the victim’s trauma and deny them justice.

The Akosombo Police Division remains committed to child protection and the eradication of all forms of domestic violence in the community.
